1. INTRODUCTION
This manual contains instructions for installation, use and maintenance of the Mast with
mobile panel. BESIDES THE FOLLOWING, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS REFER
TO THE MANUFACTURING DRAWINGS PROVIDED AT TIME OF
ORDER THAT COULD INCLUDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT
SPECIFIC CASES
2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE MAST
The lighting mast with mobile panel is a metallic structure mainly composed of:
Monotubolar shaft tapered shaped with polygonal cross section, hot dip galvanized, composed of two or more
sections to be joined at site by forced overlapping (slip on joint) . Manufactured by cold forming of steel plate and
subsequent external longitudinal welding MAG carried out by automatic an approved process.
The anchorage to the base can occur by direct burying the foundation plinth or by the base plate and anchor bolts.
The mast is equipped at the base with grounding connection, reinforced door for access to the internal equipment
and,
Provided for the assembling at site of the trailing head on top and of the external rail along the shaft, which are
needed for the sliding of the movement system below described.
The mast head made of hot galvanized steel, consisting of 1 arms for the wiring rope and electric cable,
completely covered to assure the protection of the driving equipment inside composed by the polyamide pulleys
6.6 mounted on self-lubricating bushes and inox steel pivots. Each arm is provided with a system which prevents
the wire ropes and electric cable to go out from their seats.
The trailing head is supplied already assembled and complete with the lifting ropes and the electric cable for
floodlights feeding.
.
Mobile Panel made of galvanized steel profiles, sliding on the external rail along the shaft. The panel is provided
with a safety device which prevent falling, which acts on the rail locking the falling, in case of failure of the rope
during the movement; Furthermore there is an hooking elastic system which allows to make the panel mechanically
integral with the mast head during the normal operation of the mast, releasing this the wire rope from any load.
Finally it is provided with wheels which allow the vertical sliding and prevents the horizontal movement.
The floodlgihts are mounted on purpose made brackets fixed to the mobile panel.
Electric cable for the power supply of the floodlight is of the self-supporting type and of adequate section for the
power to be installed. The electric cable at the base of the mast (nearby the connecting cylinder) is provided with
CEE plug for connection to the interlocked socket fixed nearby the door. On the top the cable ends inside the
junction box fixed to the mobile panel. In this way all the electric wiring are permanents and there is not bayonet
contacts. The Junction box completed with terminal board already wired is completed with tight proof socket
foreseen for the ground test by means of EEC extension.
Movement system composed of trolley mounted manual hoist having suitable carriage load, with chain of suitable
length.
The protection of the surface from the atmosphere environment is obtained by hot dip
galvanizing. The thickness of the zinc layer will be according to the UNI EN ISO 1461.

4. TRANSPORT,UNLOADING AND STORAGE OF THE LIGHTING
MAST
TRANSPORT
The floodlight mast is supplied to be assembled in the following packages:
N.1 Bundle for the shaft (the shaft are one inside the other)
N.1 Bundle for the trailing head
N.1 Bundle for the mobile panel
N.1 Bundle for the hoist
N.1 Bundle for the crossbars for floodlight and ballasts supports (if any) , the bolts ,
distribution box and the door.
During transport, care should be taken to ensure the tower in such a way as to prevent damages
(such as crushing and / or distortion) of the most delicate parts (the trailing head, crown, door) due
to the heavier parts (shaft).
UNLOADING
Considering that the structure is delivered at site with the section inserted one inside the other, the
unloading must be carried out with suitable means to lift the weights indicated in the previous
chapter, slinging the section with suitable strips or chains positioned in such a way that the sections
are balanced as shown in the photo below.
STORAGE
The storage of the shaft, the mobile panel and the trailing head can take place in the outside area
avoiding direct contact with the ground; for this purpose it is useful to have the material on the
raised supports from the ground. The trolley mounted hoist, the door, the distribution box and the
accessory must be kept in a covered, dry place.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 5/33
5. ASSEMBLY OF THE SHAFT
Prepare the elements on wooden crosspieces in such a way that the longitudinal welding line of the
single section coincides with that of the next one.
The opening of the base section must always turned upwards, NEVER downwards. The marking
made on the head plate is to be found in axis with the door.
Before proceeding with the assembly be sure that the overlapping areas are free from foreign bodies
such as gravel or dirt (probably entered during unloading / handling / storage phases) that can create
problems during the forced coupling phases.
The assembly of the sections is made by use of 2-tir for ( pull and lifting machines) hooked at the
ends of the elements starting, in the case of tower 3 or more sections from the assembly of the base
section with the next intermediate and proceeding gradually up to the top section.
THE SECTIONS MUST BE OVERLAPPED UP TO REFUSAL.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 6/33
6. ASSEMBLING OF THE EXTERNAL RAIL AND MOBILE PANEL
Place the shaft on a trestle in such a way that the top is at a height of at least 1m from the ground; if
the shaft is in 3 or more sections it is a good to put in the central part some stacked pallets to avoid
that the tower can flop down. For matters of convenience hold the side with the spacers facing
upwards.
Insert the first piece of rail starting from the top of the pole using the provided washers and bolts
Insert the mobile panel from the top of the mast (with the help of a hoist to lift the panel over the
trestle) and insert it in the first part of the rail fixed to the mast.
Bring the Mobile Panel at the top of the shaft (with the aid of the hoist to cross the trestle) making
it sliding on the external rail
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 7/33
Fasten the other pieces of the external rail considering that the various pieces (excluding the piece
that must be mounted as last) have appropriate junction pieces welded at their ends. These pieces
are always facing downwards.
When placing the last section of the rail, since there are no references, verify that the spacers of the
same do not close the hole at the opening door .
7. ASSEMBLY OF TRAILING HEAD AND WIRE ROPES ADJUSTING
Insert a probe inside the shaft entering from the top of the mast and making it exit from the slot.
Unroll the lifting cable and power cable from the trailing head, fasten the probe to the distributor
(see diagram 3A) and pull the other end (that protrudes from the slot) until the distributor does not
fit entirely into the shaft.
Fasten the trailing head to the top of the shaft (raising it with a suitable lifting device). Pull the pilot
probe until the distributor does not appear on the opening. In performing such an operation be
careful not to overstretch the distributor otherwise the cable could exit from the Trailing Head. The
distributor will be locked at 45 cm from the base of the slot by using the piece of chain provided;
the chain will be locked inside the ring welded to the shaft (the measure can be referred to the ring
itself and grows to about 30 cm).
Insert the rope which exit from the trailing head through the centering pivot of the Mobile Panel,
and simulate the coupling of the panel to the head. To this purpose it is necessary to slide the
connecting rod (hooking elastic device) on the carpentry of the trailing Head until it clicks.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 8/33
Pull the lifting rope so that the distributor is under pull and, with the distributor under pull, pass
the rope trough the thimble which is above the braking system of the Mobile Panel. Fold the rope
on the thimble and secure it with four saddle-clamps supplied (following the specifications and
the illustrations). The rope made redundant should be cut.
IMPORTANT: The mounting of the rope with 4 terminals
must take place in the manner shown in the drawing
alongside. This operation is among the most important and
delicate because if not done properly can with the time being
result in loosening and sliding of the rope preventing the
unhooking of the mobile crown. To have the maximum
efficiency it is recommended to place the terminals in the
way shown in the figure (the incorrect assembly of the attack
decreases the efficiency of 60% with respect to the breaking
load of the rope).
From the opening at the base of the mast loosen the safety chain from the distributor. Pull the base
of the pole, the mobile panel and the electric cable until it result to be pulled; lock the electrical
cable with the wire clips blocks making sure to leave slightly loose electrical cable (final
adjustment of the cable must be done when the mast is lifted and the mobile panel brought to the
ground. The power cable should never be kept stretched.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 9/33
8. LIFTING AND CENTERING OF THE SHAFT
Before carrying out all operations for lifting the lighting mast it is necessary to fix a rope or
an electric cable (sect. Min. 6mm) to the mobile panel nearby the hooking elastic system;
this in order to facilitate the lowering of the mobile panel in the first operation done without
load.
For the lifting of the lighting mast You will need to
use a crane of suitable capacity (refer to page 4 of the
weights table) that fasten the shaft about 2/3 of its
height.
Fasten the tower at about 2/3 of its height, taking care
to insert, in the harness itself, a steel cable 10
(minimum) whose other end is fixed to m.a.t. of the
stem. The cable will prevent the harness to rise (due to
the taper of the shaft.
Futhermore, when you fastenthe mast and when
you lift it up you must pay attention not to
damage the external rail damaging the
straightness (having making consequently
difficult moving the mobile panel).
NB : For safety reasons it is appropriate that
within range of the crane is present only
people and devices concerned to mounting of
the lighting mast.
For anchoring operation of the structure to the foundation plinth refer to the requirements for
the anchorage of the mast to the foundation block.

WARNING NOTE
TIGHTENING OF BOLTS FOR JOINED PART NOT PRESTRESSED
The prescription of standard D.M. 14.01.2008 “technical standard for constructions”, define a pre
stressing force for bolted joined in order to prevent the sliding between the two parts to be joined
making thus a friction union. In this case a force equal to 70% of the ultimate resistance to traction
of the bolts according to the formula:
f A
F p ,Cd 0.7 th res
M7
To which it is associate a tightening torque equal: M k d F p ,Cd
where:
f th resistance to traction of the bolt
Ares resisting area of the bolts (reduced of the threaded part)
M 7 safety coefficient (equal to 1.1 for high resistance bolts pre stressed)
k safety coefficient (equal to 1.1 for high resistance bolts pre stressed)
d nominal diameter of the bolt
The scope of the friction union is that on to bring to contact the two parts to be joined so that they
do not slide one on the other, causing as a consequence a traction stat on the shaft of the bolt until to
reach values near to the yield point. Infact, considering a bolt class 8.8 [yield point 640 MPa,
braking load 800MPa], the pre stressing force is equal to:
fth Ares f A
Fp ,Cd 0.7 0.7 yh res 0.8 f yh Ares
M7 0.8 1.1
where f yh resistance to the yield point
We reach therefore values near to the 80% of the yield point.
In case of structures with base plate the connection between plate and foundation block isn’t a
friction bolted union working with pre stress, therefore the verification of the tightening torque by
means of a dynamometric key. In fact , the task of the anchor bolts is to transfer the stresses
deriving from the upper structure to the foundation block, that is to maintain the structure in its
place avoiding the overturning.
Furthermore we underline that to apply a tightening torque to the anchor bolts can be
counterproductive because You will pre stress the anchor bolts with a force equal already to the
80% of the yield point (maintaining only 20% as reserve for the external actions).
For the above mentioned reasons, generally THE PRE STRESSING TIGHTENING TORQUE
MUST NOT BE APPLIED on nuts of anchor bolts or in general nuts and bolts of our products (if
not clearly specified in the workshop drawings in particular cases)
BOLTS AND NUTS MUST BE TIGHTENED WITH STANDARD KEYS AVAILABLE FOR
SALE WITHOUT EXTENTIONS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR, EMPLOYING A NORMAL
EFFORT WHICH CAN BE DEVELPPED BY A PERSON
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 11/33
Approximately the applied torque values can be defined according to the following hypothesis:
Considering that they are bolted joined parts which are not subjected to pre stressing.
Considering that the tightening of the bolts forced with the normal human force.
Considering that the maximum effort which can be done by a man in safety, is defined as
25kg (D.L. 81/08 - ISO 11228)
Considering the length of normal fork keys normally for sale.
You can have an indication about the tightening torque by the following formula: M F L ,
where F = applied force (max 25 kg ~ 245 N) e L = length of the key
Hereby we list as an indication some tables with the length of standard simple fork keys

9. INSTALLATION OF THE HOIST
TROLLEY MOUNTED MANUAL HOIST
Bring the trolley mounted unit down unit near to the shaft, center it in the hole (done on the
shaft) and then secure it to the door at base with the bolt supplied
Let chain out of the hoist by passing it through the driving whirl; then insert it inside the
distributor. ALWAYS CHECK THE ORTHOGONALITY OF THE CHAIN MESHES
Put the distributor pulled so that the safety chain is a
little bit loosen, which must be removed on the end
of the distributor. From now on the mobile panel is
held suspended thanks to the hoist. Lower the panel
in order to fix and connect the floodlights.
N.B.: DURING THE FIRST LOWERING YOU
SHOULD HELP THE MOBILE PANEL, THAT IS
COMPLETELY RELEASED, WITH THE HELP
OF THE ROPE PREVIOUSLY TIED TO THE
PANEL.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 13/33
TROLLEY MOUNTED ELECTRIC HOIST
Insert the driving whirl inserting it from the slot made on the side of the mast; the support will
be fixed on the connection by means of the nail.
Connect the power cable to the socket at the base of the shaft. Before connecting the electric
hoist to the stem, do the following:
Power the hoist connecting it to the
socket.
Connect the plug of the safety switch
limiter .
Verify the right sequence of phases; to
do this just type the "UP" button on the
pushbutton and see if the chain go
inside the hoist (if you tap
"DESCENT" the chain should come out
of the hoist); if not so the hoist works in
reverse logic and then it will be
necessary to reverse the incoming
phases in the interlocked socket.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 14/33
Release 1 to 1.5m from the chain hoist
Fix the switch limiter rod to the mast .
Put in line the electric hoist with the
connection of the shaft. Pass the chain through
the appropriate slot of the shaft, through the
driving whirl and finally hook it to the end of
the distributor, by inserting it into its seat.
N.B .: WHILE THIS OPERATION IS
CARRIED OUT IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT
THE CHAIN ALWAYS KEEP THE MESHES
ORTHOGONAL
Hook the unit to the shaft locking it with the screw
Put the distributor under pull (pressing on the pushbutton "UP" key) just enough so that the
security chain attached to the distributor is no longer under tension. At this point the safety chain
has to be removed and the panel remains suspended thanks to the electricl unit
effect.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 15/33
10. ASSEMBLY OF FLOODLIGHT
Bring the mobile panel down helping it (if necessary) by pulling the rope tied to it.
Fix brackets for floodlights support on the mobile panel, following the directions of any
lighting design or indications of D.L.
N.B .: Generally the brackets for the floodlight fixed are composed of an angular iron that can
be mounted in different ways, favoring the correct installation according to the floodlight. The
fixture may also have different shapes. Refer to the workshop drawings concerned to the
supply.
Fix the floodlight to the supports previously installed on the mobile panel, using the
appropriate fasteners.
If separated the feeding box is foreseen, they will also be provided adequate supports to be
fixed on the Mobile Panel on the ribs anyway according to the installer discretion. For
convenience, the feeding boxes will be installed before fixing the / and bracket / and to the
Mobile Panel.
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 16/33

In order to move (lower / raise) the mobile panel, proceed as follows:
LOWERING THE MOBILE PANEL
Open the door
Open the circuit by acting on the selector of the interlocked socket
Remove the floodlights power plug
Insert the trolley unit and secure it to the opening following the instructions below.
o Bring the trolley mounted unit near the base of the shaft
o Center the unit with the hole on the shaft and lock it at the door with the
appropriate bolt
o Let chain out from the hoist, passing it through the driving whirl and then
insert it into the distributor (N.B .: during this operation it is necessary to
verify that the mess of the chain are always orthogonal)
o Put the distributor under pull just enough to release the safety chain
From now on the mobile panel is held suspended thanks to the hoisting unit. Lower the
panel to make maintenance on the floodlights
act on the hoist raise the Mobile Panel until the spring release (this means that the mobile
panels unhooks from the trailing head)
Lower the Mobile Panel up to an appropriate height to make the maintenance of the
floodlights
N.B .: to perform the ground test of the floodlight a dedicated power extension is provided
www.palicampion.it – instruction for the assembly, use and maintenance of the masts CMP – rev.20161216 – pag. 17/33
RAISE OF MOBILE PANEL
Raise the Mobile Panel; when the distributor appears from the opening proceed in rising
with caution until the spring release (which involves the coupling of the connecting rod into
their seats)
To Pull down the Mobile Panel to hook it to the trailing head (this involves the discharge of
the lifting rope and the pull chain of the hoist)
Fix the free end of the safety chain to the distributor
Remove the hoisting unit
Insert the floodlights power plug into the interlocked socket
Close the loop by acting on the selector of the interlocked socket
